Wharariki Beach, New ZealandWharariki Beachphotos/11180403015_w.jpggallery_best.php?Id=11180403015Wharariki Beach is a magical place in the Golden Bay area of New Zealand's South Island. I arrived to find I was the first person to leave a set of footprints since the tide went out. In the hours I spent exploring the beach and dunes I saw only a handful of people from a distance. Watching the sun set was a truly magnificent, peaceful and joyful experience.11180403015

Currumbin Light, QLD, AustraliaCurrumbin Lightphotos/20080310036_w.jpggallery_best.php?Id=20080310036I got up before dawn and as I drove to the beach it was grey and started raining. I wasn't very hopeful of taking anything worthwhile, yet these beautiful sun beams appeared. It just goes to show you never know what you're going to get!20080310036
Maui Sunset, USAMaui Sunsetphotos/12100403003_w.jpggallery_best.php?Id=12100403003I was in Maui holidaying with my Mum for her 60th Birthday and we were watching the sun set across the water and looking for heads of the giant turtles popping up out of the water. I never saw a one, yet whenever my back was turned my Mum would exclaim, "There's one!" I got to go snorkeling with them a few days later, which was a beautiful and peaceful experience, so I got to see them in the end!12100403003
Eilean Donan Castle, ScotlandEilean Donan Castlephotos/20150409001_w.jpggallery_best.php?Id=20150409001I believe this castle has featured in several films, including Highlander, and I'm not surprised given its beautiful location. When I used to have a stand at the markets I had so many people tell me this was their ancestral home - 3 in one day once! Surely they couldn't all be related and living on the Gold Coast!?!20150409001

Burleigh Mist, QLD, AustraliaBurleigh Mistphotos/20080322054_w.jpggallery_best.php?Id=20080322054I was waiting for the sun to set and the moon to rise so I could take a photo of the moon over the ocean for my book "Love This Moment". This was a shot I took to keep myself occupied while I waited, and as it turns out I like it much more than the image I went for. It's funny how often that happens, with the unlooked for photo being the true keeper.20080322054

I had my back to this scene when the fire was lit, and I remember just turning around and going "Wow!" to see the trees look so red it was like they were on fire, with the full moon sitting above.10130701001

Kata Tjuta (The Olgas), NT, AustraliaKata Tjuta (The Olgas)photos/10120309002_w.jpggallery_best.php?Id=10120309002I got to Kata Tjuta and started the Valley of the Winds walk a little later than I planned. It was a lovely walk and when I reached the furthest lookout I had it all to myself, which was beautiful. For once I didn't dawdle around taking photos too much as I wanted to get back for the obligatory distance shot as the sun started going down and made the rock even redder. I shouldn't have worried as I got back in plenty of time and was even lucky enough to have all these little puffs of cloud that made the sky much more interesting.10120309002

Tree Bark, QLD, AustraliaTree Barkphotos/200612310001_w.jpggallery_best.php?Id=200612310001I love tree bark! I really love it. Probably because I love trees so much. Most times I go walking in the forest I end up taking photos of bark. I don't know if it interests many other people, but I love the subtle colours and textures. This is the bark of a massive Bunya Pine, which can grow up to 45m high and has these soccer-ball sized cones which I found quite scary! :) 200612310001

Jim Jim Falls, Kakakdu National Park, NT, AustraliaJim Jim Falls, Kakakdu National Parkphotos/10120309010_w.jpggallery_best.php?Id=10120309010Jim Jim Falls is one of my absolute favourite places I've ever been...ever! Behind those large boulders (notice the man standing on top of one...some are HUGE!) is actually another beautiful pool of water. I went swimming in there and eventually ended up having the pool all to myself. I floated on my back gazing up at the massive cliffs and blue blue sky. Then I started freaking myself out thinking about crocodiles until I thought, "You know what, I'd be so lucky to die in a place as beautiful as this," and then all my fear melted into bliss. Jim Jim Falls always reminds me of the power of surrender.10120309010
