Wharariki Beach, New ZealandWharariki Beachphotos/11180403015_w.jpggallery.php?GalleryId=&Id=11180403015Wharariki Beach is a magical place in the Golden Bay area of New Zealand's South Island. I arrived to find I was the first person to leave a set of footprints since the tide went out. In the hours I spent exploring the beach and dunes I saw only a handful of people from a distance. Watching the sun set was a truly magnificent, peaceful and joyful experience.11180403015

Maui Sunset, USAMaui Sunsetphotos/12100403003_w.jpggallery.php?GalleryId=&Id=12100403003I was in Maui holidaying with my Mum for her 60th Birthday and we were watching the sun set across the water and looking for heads of the giant turtles popping up out of the water. I never saw a one, yet whenever my back was turned my Mum would exclaim, "There's one!" I got to go snorkeling with them a few days later, which was a beautiful and peaceful experience, so I got to see them in the end!12100403003

Surely they couldn't all be related and living on the Gold Coast!?!20150409001

It's funny how often that happens, with the unlooked for photo being the true keeper.20080322054

It was a lovely walk and when I reached the furthest lookout I had it all to myself, which was beautiful. For once I didn't dawdle around taking photos too much as I wanted to get back for the obligatory distance shot as the sun started going down and made the rock even redder. I shouldn't have worried as I got back in plenty of time and was even lucky enough to have all these little puffs of cloud that made the sky much more interesting.10120309002

Most times I go walking in the forest I end up taking photos of bark. I don't know if it interests many other people, but I love the subtle colours and textures. This is the bark of a massive Bunya Pine, which can grow up to 45m high and has these soccer-ball sized cones which I found quite scary! :) 200612310001

Behind those large boulders (notice the man standing on top of one...some are HUGE!) is actually another beautiful pool of water. I went swimming in there and eventually ended up having the pool all to myself. I floated on my back gazing up at the massive cliffs and blue blue sky. Then I started freaking myself out thinking about crocodiles until I thought, "You know what, I'd be so lucky to die in a place as beautiful as this," and then all my fear melted into bliss. Jim Jim Falls always reminds me of the power of surrender.10120309010

Tanah Lot, BaliTanah Lotphotos/20060900001_w.jpggallery.php?GalleryId=&Id=20060900001Tanah Lot is one of the most sacred temples in Bali. Tanah means Earth and Lot means Sea, so the name basically means "Temple of Earth and Sea". It is said the priest Niratha saw the rock during his travel in the 15th century and rested there the night. Afterwards he felt it to be a holy place to worship the Balinese sea gods so he asked local fisherman to build a shrine there. It's certainly a beautiful place to watch the sun set!20060900001

It was a generally cool and cloudy day, but one of the things I love about Scotland is that it truly gives you weather, with it changing rapidly between cloud and sunshine and back again. Which means you get to experience lots of sunbeams sneaking through the clouds, as well as a fair share of rainbows (I saw 3 in two weeks!)20130409004

As I got closer clouds came over, and by the time I reached the top of the mountain it was completely covered in fog and cloud. I thought I'd walk through the rainforest to the lookout anyway, and was rewarded with the beautiful, surreal atmosphere you only experience in rainforests when there's mist and fog about. While you could see nothing from the lookout, this photo is always a good reminder to me that luck is a matter of perspective, and life always has gifts for us, even if they aren't what we expected.20020000001
