COURAGE
…is fear in action
It’s so easy to get caught waiting until the fear goes away before acting. But the truth is the only way the fear can truly go away is by acting.
It’s important to remember here that courage is not the absence of fear. Courage is feeling the fear and doing it anyway. Courage is acting in spite of fear.
When you’re in a dangerous situation – like being in a room with a lion (yeah, that happens a lot!) – fear can be useful.
However much of the time our fears are about an outcome our minds have imagined for us in the future, which doesn’t actually exist. In other words, our fears lie to us.
Intention For The Week
Feel the fear and do it anyway!
Simple Empowerment Steps
- Think about a time you were scared and didn’t act.How did that feel?
- Think about a time you were scared and acted anyway.
- When something comes along that you fear doing, try acting as soon as possible, before giving your mind time to build on your fear.
Did you notice how disempowering it was?
Did this lack of action result in what you wanted? Or did it actually result in what you feared? In other words, notice if listening to your fear helped you or not.
How did that feel?
Did you notice how empowering it was?
If the result was actually what you feared, did you notice the reality wasn’t nearly as bad as the fear itself?
It’s important to notice the difference between fear and a lack of desire to do something because it’s not aligned with your true Self.
If you’re unsure ask yourself, “Is this something I really want?” and take your first instinctual response before your mind replies with its own answer.
The main intention here is to bring awareness to us about our fears, so diminishing their power.
It’s important to note that what we’re talking about here is fear, not a phobia. The very action that can dissolve fear could actually make a phobia worse, so if you’ve got a phobia instead consider techniques like hypnosis or EFT to deal with it.
Have the courage to live the life you want to live!
I think Richard Branson is a fantastic role-model for this, and is a great example of the difference that can be made when someone has the courage to live the life of their dreams no matter what. If you need some inspiration I highly recommend reading his autobiography.
At the end of the day I think the best advice is Just Do It!
