The Start of All of This!

I was at a friend’s for dinner last night and was asked about how I started “all of this”.

I usually think of it starting with the first slideshow version of “Love This Moment” that I made months before even thinking of turning it into a book. Last night however, I remembered that wasn’t the start at all.

While in truth I can now see I’ve been on this path my entire life (even if I didn’t realise it at the time), the first time I ever put my writing together with my photography and sent it out into the world was back at Christmas 2005 with my verse “Little Spaces”.

I wrote “Little Spaces” about 6 months before in relation to the death of my Grandmother back in August 2004. Come Christmas time I put it together with one of my photographs, framed it and gave it to my Mum and Aunt.

It touched them and made them both cry, however I’d not put on there that I’d written it (I just assumed they’d know even though I hadn’t really shared any of my verses before then), so it was many months before my Mum actually realised it was mine!

Since then “Little Spaces” has gone on to touch and comfort many people who’ve lost someone they love. It’s a very special verse and I know it has some greater role to play, though not what that role is just yet.

So today I’d like to share “Little Spaces” with you, so you can remember the people you love.

Little Spaces

When a person leaves us
They leave a space that can
Never be filled by another being.

But the space isn’t empty.

Our thoughts and memories and
Feelings of the person will always live on there.

And while they will always remind us of our loss,
They will also remind us of how lucky we were
To share a part of our lives with that person.

The pain of losing someone close never goes away.

But with time you can more appreciate all the
Wonderful moments you had together.

You can smile and laugh as you remember all of the
Details that made them special to you.

And you can cry as you know that those memories
Will never be added to in this life.

The important things about a person
Will always remain with us.

And if we keep that place within us open
They will never truly die.
